The Telangana Development Forum (TDF) Washington D.C. Chapter’s Vanitha team brought the vibrant spirit of Telangana culture to the United States by organizing Bathukamma and Dussehra celebrations at Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Virginia on October 15. This event marked the 18th consecutive year of TDF’s efforts to share the rich cultural heritage of Telangana with the global community. Over 3,800 enthusiastic participants from around the world came together to celebrate the Bathukamma festival in Washington, D.C.
The event witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including TDF USA President Dr. Divesh Anireddy, TDF USA Chairman Venkat Maram, and TDF Founder President Murali Chinthalapani, along with their families. These special guests shed light on the development initiatives undertaken by TDF in various Telangana villages, including programs such as Jai Kisan, Mana Telangana Badi, Arogya Seva, and Vanita Cheyuta.
The occasion was graced by the renowned sculptor and artist from India, MV Ramana Reddy, the designer of the “Telangana Martyrs Memorial.” An international sculptor with exhibitions in over 80 countries, he launched his book, “Path to Artistic Brilliance, A Journey Unveiled,” at the TDF D.C. Bathukamma Sambarala.
Adding a touch of glamour to the festivities, Telangana actress Swathi Reddy, known for her captivating performances and songs, including “Ellipotavaura Manishi.. Bagundali Manishi,” enthralled the audience with her melodious Bathukamma songs and lively dance performances alongside women. Several politicians and community leaders from Washington D.C. and Virginia joined in the Bathukamma celebrations, fostering community bonds.
The event featured vibrant stalls offering a wide array of colorful and attractive clothing and jewelry for men, women, and children at affordable prices, attracting visitors from far and wide.
As a gesture of hospitality, the Telangana Development Forum provided a sumptuous Telangana cuisine meal free of charge to all attendees. Manjuvani, the cultural lead, and her troupe delighted the audience with a mesmerizing performance of the Mahishasura Mardhini dance form. Navya Alapathi and her troupe presented a medley dance showcasing Telangana village culture, spreading joy among all present.
