The Telangana Development Forum (TDF) Washington D.C. Chapter’s Vanitha team orchestrated a grand celebration of Bathukamma and Dussehra on October 15th at Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Virginia. In an earnest endeavor to showcase Telangana culture on the global stage, TDF has been commemorating Bathukamma and Dussehra across several U.S. metro cities for the past 18 years. This year’s celebration in Washington D.C. saw a vibrant gathering of more than 3,800 participants, who were enthralled by the mesmerizing Bathukammas on display.
The event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including TDF USA President Dr. Divesh Anireddy, TDF USA Chairman Venkat Maram, and TDF Founder President Murali Chinthalapani, along with their families. Dr. Anireddy expounded upon TDF’s commendable development initiatives in various Telangana villages, shedding light on projects like “Jai Kisan” and “Mana Telangana Badi.” Adding artistic flair to the event, internationally renowned sculptor and artist MV Ramana Reddy, the designer of the “Telangana Martyrs Memorial,” launched his book, “Path to Artistic Brilliance, A Journey Unveiled.”
A special highlight of the Bathukamma celebration was a stirring performance by Telangana artist Swathi Reddy, whose soulful renditions of “Ellipotavaura Manish Manish” and “Bagundali Manish” on the “Swathi Reddy UK” channel resonated with audiences worldwide. Eminent politicians and community leaders from Washington D.C. and Virginia enthusiastically participated in the Bathukamma festivities, joining local women in celebrating the tradition.
The event featured bustling stalls with visitors from various backgrounds exploring an array of colorful and attractive clothing and jewelry for men, women, and children at affordable prices. To further indulge the senses, the Telangana Development Forum offered a delectable Kammati Telangana cuisine meal to all attendees, free of charge. The entertainment continued with a spirited medley dance performance by Navya Alapathi and her troupe, showcasing the charm of Telangana’s village culture. Manjuvani and her troupe mesmerized the audience with their Mahishasura Mardhini dance performance.
Kavita Challa and Vinaya Suraneni, leaders of the Telangana Development Forum Washington D.C. Vanitha team, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Telugu people worldwide and all who attended the Bathukamma festival in Washington D.C. They commended the dedication of key individuals who played pivotal roles in the festival’s success, including Kalpana Boinapalli, Srikala, Shivani, Manju Ganga, Suraneni Rammohan, Zeenath, Naveen Challa, Punnam Jonnala, Anil Kesineni, Amarender Bojja, Ashwini, Pawan, Karunakar, Radhika, Shweta Immadi, Mallareddy, and the numerous volunteers whose unwavering efforts ensured a memorable celebration.
